The way I knew what this post was about before I opened it!
I, of course, felt very left out in the body text because that is not how I interpreted the Tree Prompt; then I read the footnote ;P
I did get the opportunity to read a few other students pieces using this prompt and loved how different each of them was. The two I can think of were so very rooted in the authors themselves and proves that every writer will tell the same story differently (or a different story from the same inspiration.)
I love that I took it a bit more literally and slid into the fantasy genre because that's the genre my writing began in as a wee one. A lot of my more recent writing hasn't been genre writing and those that have haven't been quite as whimsical. I'm actually still noodling this story and premise...
